EY named as Official Sustainability Partner of Extreme E
Environmentally conscious off-road racing series, Extreme E, is pleased to announce that established collaborator, EY, has reinforced its commitment to the championship – now named as the series’ Official Sustainability Partner for 2023
EY is a global leader in assurance, consulting, strategy, transactions and tax services, and already plays a significant role in working with Extreme E. Originally announcing its collaboration with the championship back in 2020, EY came on board to help Extreme E achieve its commitment to minimising its overall footprint whilst creating a positive legacy.
Whilst Extreme E strives ‘to race without a trace’, the framework provided by EY has helped the series to minimize its environmental impact across each of its remote race locations. Both prior and post-racing impact assessments have supported Extreme E to strategically plan their actions within these areas.
Alejandro Agag, Extreme E Founder and CEO, said: "We are thrilled to have EY as our Official Sustainability Partner for 2023. Their continued commitment to sustainability aligns perfectly with our mission to create a better planet through sport. We look forward to continuing to work closely with EY to promote sustainability in motorsport and beyond.”
EY and Extreme E will work closely together to promote the five pillars of Extreme E (or “Five Es”) through the adoption of ‘XE Talks’. These informative presentations, facilitated by Extreme E’s Scientific Committee, will shed light on the Five Es, showcasing the joint commitment of EY and Extreme E.
The five Es stand for E-mobility, Equality, Environment, Energy and Entertainment. Extreme E conducts these talks to provide a deeper understanding of the championship’s mission to expand awareness of e-mobility, the circular economy, the impacts of climate change and the actions we need to take in the transition to a net-zero and nature positive future.
In addition to the talks, ‘Thought Leadership’ panels will be held at each of these race events to bring together leading industry voices with Extreme E’s NGO partners in order to discuss how they can work together to tackle the negative effects of climate change in their specific regions. Races this season are taking place in Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Sardinia, Brazil or USA and finally rounding off in the remote Atacama Desert in Chile.
To kick off Season 3 Extreme E, with a few of its drivers, also joined EY’s MWC Barcelona 2023 panels to discuss energy resilience and sustainability in motorsport. EY teams are also exploring other opportunities for collaboration with Extreme E, such as the EY Open Science Data Challenge.
In 2022, the Challenge, part of the EY commitment to innovate and use technology to address some of the world’s largest environmental and climate change problems, saw participants using field data, satellite imagery and complementary geospatial data gathered from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and other resources to develop algorithms that reduced the cost and time required to locate biodiversity.
Andres Saenz, EY Global Vice Chair – Industry Markets, said: “I’m hugely proud to see EY named Extreme E's Official Sustainability Partner for 2023, which bolsters shared ambitions to minimise the environmental impact of motorsports and highlight increasingly urgent issues surrounding climate change. EY is committed to helping businesses around the world understand and strategically address sustainability challenges, and this extended collaboration sets an example to organisations across all industries that aspire to creating a positive legacy in this era of transformation.”
Extreme E and EY will also continue to work together to produce the Sustainability Report. The 2022 report will be released later this year.
