Extreme E offers 'greatest job in the world' opportunity

The series, which includes Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button, McLaren and now Superstar DJ Carl Cox as team owners, is advertising for the position of St. Helena Explorer, which will see the successful candidate live and travel aboard Extreme E’s ship for ten months, reporting behind the scenes on the series’ purpose driven mission.

As part of the ship’s global voyage this year, the St. Helena will visit the deserts of Saudi Arabia before venturing on a European leg with races which will take in Scotland, and the searing island heat of Sardinia, followed by a trip across the Atlantic to either the USA or Brazil, and a conclusion in Chile’s Atacama Desert – known for being one of the driest places on the planet.

A motor racing series with a difference, Extreme E utilises its sporting platform for the purpose of promoting electric vehicles, environmental issues and solutions, and equality. The series’ goal is to highlight the impact of climate change in a variety of global environments, promote the adoption of electric vehicles to pave the way for a lower carbon future, and provide a world-first gender-equal motorsport platform.

The series has its own Scientific Committee which advises and informs on environmental issues in each race location, with examples highlighted in previous seasons including desertification, rising global temperatures, and renewable energy solutions.

The series also has a Legacy Programme, which invests in community issues specific to each race location, and long-lasting nature based solutions which can be tracked and monitored over time.

Candidates for the role must have a passion for exploration and adventure, as well as previous travel experience. What’s more they need to be a keen presenter and hold a strong passion for understanding sustainability and the climate issues. The St. Helena Explorer will be instrumental in helping Extreme E to engage its followers in raising awareness of the climate crisis and its solutions.

The role will include bringing the behind-the-scenes details of living aboard the St. Helena to life, revealing all of the unique insights onboard the series’ floating paddock, and leading on producing purpose driven content for the championship’s social media channels at sea and on land.

The St. Helena also plays host to an onboard scientific laboratory, and the St Helena Explorer will be responsible for working with the Scientific Committee to showcase important research and experiments taking place onboard as Extreme E strives to dig deeper into the impact caused by climate change.

Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Extreme E, said: “We are thrilled to open up this opportunity for one lucky candidate to travel the world with Extreme E in 2023.

“There are so many facets to our groundbreaking series - one of the biggest and most fascinating being the St. Helena, which plays a vital role in our series. We want our St Helener Explorer to document all the stories from the ship. From the incredible staff who live on board, to the amazing destinations on route, to the scientific research being undertaken in our onboard laboratory.

“The successful applicant will showcase all of the unique insights aboard the St. Helena and we look forward to seeing the incredible range of talent who applies for this once-in-a-lifetime position.

"Raising awareness of the climate crisis is crucial to our series and this exciting role typifies that – the Race for the Planet is on in 2023, and you could be the one to tell its tale.”

The role will require fantastic communication skills, liaising with Extreme E, the St Helena crew, and the Scientific Committee on a consistent basis, alongside welcoming and hosting guests aboard the ship in race locations.
