Extreme E Shortlisted for BBC Green Sports Award
Extreme E were shortlisted following recognition of the organisation’s long-term approach in placing a purpose led sport alongside meaningful partnerships and local activations, including the launch of the Extreme H hydrogen racing car on board the St Helena in June, and its first test at the Hydro X Prix in Scotland a few weeks later.

In their third year, the BBC Green Sports Awards are a celebration of the sports people and organisations who are combining their passions of sport and sustainability to drive change and promote a greener future.
In addition to unveiling Extreme E’s new hydrogen racing car this year, the series reached a key milestone at its most recent event in Scotland when it confirmed it had powered 80 per cent of its race site with hydrogen fuel cells.
Through its partnership with its Green Hydrogen Partner ENOWA, and its Hydrogen Fuel Cell System, the series is transitioning from hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) powered generators.
Extreme E invests in nature-based solutions in all its race locations, which aim to help protect and restore species and habitats. During Extreme E’s Legacy Programme in Scotland, the series continued its support of the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board, and its efforts to protect Atlantic Salmon from rising river temperatures and riverbank erosion.
The series’ Official Technology Partner Vodafone Business provided IoT sensor solutions to help monitor the water quality and temperature levels of the River Nith. The aim is create a stream of data across the seasons that will enable the scientists to understand the trends and what was happening in different parts of the river.
Extreme E has been shortlisted for an additional seven awards this year, including Sports Innovation and Partnership of the Year Awards at the BASIS Awards, Purpose Led Partnership, at the Sports Positive Awards, (Oct 8), the Leaders Sports Awards (14-17 Oct) for the Trailblazer category for Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag; the Sports Business Awards (Nov 29) in the Sports Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and also the Non Governing Body's & Rights Holders Sustainability in Sport categories; and finally the edie Net-Zero Awards (Nov 29) for the Renewable Energy Project of the Year, with ENOWA.
The BBC Green Sports Awards will be held at the BBC Radio Theatre in Broadcasting House, London on the evening of Monday 7 October. Guests will include some of the world’s leading experts in sport sustainability including some of the sporting heroes who are advocating for a greener sector.
Winners will be announced on the BBC Sport website and app during the event.
