Extreme E shortlisted for two British Sustainability In Sports (BASIS) Awards
Held at the iconic All England Lawn Tennis Club, home to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, Extreme E’s double nominations at this year’s celebration of sustainability in sport reinforces the series’ sport-for-purpose credentials.
The Sustainable Innovation award highlights Extreme E’s green hydrogen partner, ENOWA, which has introduced green hydrogen power to Extreme E through using its ‘first of its kind’ Hydrogen Fuel Cell System. The series is transitioning from hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) powered generators, to ENOWA’s innovative portable hydrogen solution, and reached a key milestone at its most recent event in Scotland by powering 80 per cent of its race site with hydrogen fuel cells.
The Partnership of the Year award celebrates Extreme E’s partnership with Vodafone Business, its official Technology Communications Partner. The pair collaborate to integrate pioneering technologies into its environmental and community focused Legacy Programmes, which are mapped globally according to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: “It is fantastic to be shortlisted in two categories at this year’s BASIS Awards, for both the Sustainable Innovation and Partnership of the Year categories.
“Sustainability and Innovation are key pillars of our sport-for-purpose racing series, and collaboration is the key to our success, so we feel very proud to see our partnerships with ENOWA and Vodafone Business being recognised so strongly within our industry.”
BASIS aims to harness the power of sport to build a sustainable future, empowering sport in the UK to become a world leader in sustainability with the urgency dictated by science, leveraging the significance of elite sport to guide society towards social and environmental sustainability.
The awards will take place on 26 September at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, home to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. At the 2023 edition of the awards Extreme E received the Strategic Leadership Award, while the championship’s Social Impact and Fan Engagement Strategist, Naganethra Reddy, also won the highly-coveted Rising Star Award.
