LEGACY MOTOR CLUB continues positive progress at Hydro X Prix

Leadbetter and off-road racing legend Travis Pastrana complemented each other well at the Desert X Prix, showing pace and potential in the team’s debut event. While Leadbetter travelled to Scotland for just her second Extreme E X Prix, her new team-mate O’Donovan would be making his series debut on home soil replacing Pastrana.

Nevertheless, following a year’s stint as Extreme E Championship Driver, O’Donovan brought plenty of experience behind the wheel of the ODYSSEY 21, which would prove invaluable as the Hydro X Prix race weekend progressed.

The pair took the American outfit’s first-ever Redemption Race victory in Round 3, as O’Donovan and Leadbetter showed plenty of promise on the Dumfries and Galloway course.

And the duo maintained that speed into Round 4, taking LEGACY M.C.’s first-ever Qualifying Heat victory giving them an outside shot at reaching their maiden Grand Final. However, a slower Continental Traction Challenge time across Qualifying meant they narrowly missed out on a debut Grand Final, and would do battle in the Redemption Race once again.

Despite taking an early lead, LEGACY M.C. had to settle for second, and sixth overall, in Round 4 after being pipped in the closing stages by the NEOM McLaren Extreme E team.

The Hydro X Prix performances and points tally demonstrated yet further positive progress for the new American team, who will be bolstered by Jimmie Johnson making his Extreme E debut for LEGACY M.C. at the Island X Prix double-header in Sardinia (14-15 September and 21-22 September).

Patrick O’Donovan, LEGACY M.C., said: “We gave it our all at the Hydro X Prix in Scotland and I am so grateful for the opportunity. It was a great weekend with the team, and there were a number of highlights including winning the Redemption Race and taking a Heat victory in Round 4 – which was the team’s first Qualifying Heat victory. That was a good feeling.

“The championship is so much fun and it was great to make my debut for Jimmie Johnson and LEGACY M.C. alongside Gray.”

Gray Leadbetter, LEGACY M.C., added: “We were really close to making our first Grand Final and it showed just how much of a step we have made as a team. For LEGACY M.C. we are still learning and growing race-by-race, and that showed once again in Scotland.

“It was great to pair up with Patrick for this event and I felt we worked well together. I know Jimmie was following our progress and was really pleased that we took that Redemption Race win with plenty of battles on track along the way. We are now looking forward to Sardinia to push even further up the grid, and hopefully we can get some even more good results when we return to racing in September.”

For the youngest driver pairing in Extreme E history, Gray Leadbetter and Patrick O’Donovan headed to the Hydro X Prix looking to build on LEGACY MOTOR CLUB IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON’S promising championship debut in Saudi Arabia.
