Looking back at last year's Hydro X Prix

Across two days of racing at the former Glenmuckloch opencast coal mine site in Dumfries and Galloway on the Buccleuch Estate, the championship provided two rounds of fascinating action amidst glorious sunshine, torrential rain, and even thick fog as Extreme E got to grips with all terrains and conditions.

X44 Vida Carbon Racing’s Fraser McConnell and Cristina Gutiérrez took the honours on the first day of racing action in Round 3, taking their first win of the 2023 campaign as a result.

A penalty for on-course winners Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E dropped British-star Catie Munnings and team-mate Timmy Hansen down to second place overall – but a podium was just rewards for the team as they secured their best result of the season.

Joining them on the podium was an elated Carl Cox Motorsport, taking their debut podium in Extreme E at just their third race.

Rosberg X Racing (RXR) were ruled out of contention early on following a roll for Johan Kristoffersson after a dramatic start, and after No.99 GMC HUMMER EV Chip Ganassi Racing suffered a setback it was the Carl Cox Motorsport duo of Timo Scheider and Christine GZ who picked up the spoils in front of a jubilant team boss Carl Cox.

Round 4 was won by E.ON Veloce Racing, taking their second victory of the season at their home event.

In tricky, wet weather conditions Kevin Hansen and Molly Taylor held of the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team’s Tanner Foust and Emma Gilmour to take an impressive victory – their second victory from four races in Extreme E Season 3.

Foust and Gilmour’s battling performance, which saw the former pull off a tremendous overtake on ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team’s (ASXE) Mattias Ekström, secured NEOM McLaren XE’s first podium of 2023.

There was further disappointment for ASXE, after Laia Sanz and RXR’s Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky made contact which ruled both out of contention.

That left No.99 GMC HUMMER EV Chip Ganassi Racing free to complete the top three positions, with RJ Anderson and Amanda Sorensen securing the American outfit’s first podium of the season.

With the 2024 Hydro X Prix just over a month away, fans can expect another exciting weekend of racing in Scotland as the second half of the campaign gets underway.

Ahead of Extreme E’s much-anticipated return to Scotland for the Hydro X Prix next month (13-14 July), the series looked back at last year’s thrilling debut in Dumfries and Galloway.
