Championship leaders ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team set the pace in Chilean finale
Extreme E’s return to South America sees the series racing in the Antofagasta region of Chile, on the doorstep of the driest place on earth – the Atacama Desert. Five teams are battling it out for championship glory, and all of them sit within the top six following Free Practice.
Currently sitting top of the standings heading into the Season 3 showdown, the ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team demonstrated the pace that has seen them win two X Prix so far this year.
Off the back of a victory in September’s Island X Prix, Mattias Ekström and Laia Sanz have carried that momentum with them, setting the quickest overall time of the day with 8:20.273.
Laia Sanz, ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team, said: "Anything can happen in Chile, but we will aim to be as strong as possible and stay away from trouble. The margins are so narrow that whoever wins this event will take the championship. Everything is still at stake and everyone will be pushing hard. We will also follow that philosophy. The team has worked very well throughout the entire season, we have always been among the best teams, and in Chile, it has to be the same again. We have done a great year and now we must finish the job. I remain calm and I have done my homework. I am ready to go for it."

Sitting hot on the Spanish team’s heels is Rosberg X Racing, just 0.628 seconds behind after today’s laps. Johan Kristofferson and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky sit second in the championship standings, and are showing the pace needed to close the three-point gap to the top and take their second Extreme E title.
Johan Kristoffersson, Rosberg X Racing, said: "This season's climax in the Atacama Desert will be a battle. With the points so close, every move counts. Our team is in top form, and I'm confident in our strategy and preparation. The intense competition only adds to the thrill, and Mikaela and I hope to deliver a great performance.”
Behind Nico Rosberg’s outfit were 2022 champions X44 Vida Carbon Racing, while championship contenders Veloce Racing finished fifth behind Carl Cox Motorsport’s Timo Scheider and Lia Block, with Scheider securing the quickest lap of the day with a 1:37.874.
Championship hopefuls No.99 GMC HUMMER EV Chip Ganassi Racing ended the day in sixth, with less than eight seconds between them and ASXE at the top.
JBXE finished the day in seventh, with the remaining three teams unable to unleash their full pace due to issues in FP2. Both the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team and ABT CUPRA XE came to a stop on course, while Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E received a penalty for speeding in the Switch Zone.

The crowning of the 2023 champions will be live across ITV and STV in the UK, while outside of the UK please visit here for broadcaster details.
